What games can my MSI CX61 run?

"Gaming Laptops"

Those two words together can bring about much discussion and controversy in gaming circles around the world. However I am not here to try and convince you that gaming laptops are a valid way of gaming (especially if you travel a lot, like me) or how gaming laptops are a good alternative to being able to game away from home without carrying a huge PC rig around - no, that is for you to decide on your own.

Instead, I am here today to talk about a gaming laptop that I bought, and what it can play. If you have no interest in gaming laptops, feel free to stop reading because this won't be for you. If you are looking at gaming laptops, and are interested in their power, you are in the right place.

Here I would like to talk about the MSI CX61 laptop (specific model MSI CX61 2PC-499US) and what games it can run. The MSI CX61 is a lower-end laptop (but new), and reasonably priced. It surprisingly can run many modern games (such as Arma 3, Skyrim, and Far Cry 4). The following is a list of games, if my laptop can run it, what settings I run it on and how well it runs. I hope this is useful to people out there looking at gaming laptops, and to see what they can run.

More info on the MSI CX61...
Full laptop specs:
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 820M 2GB
  • Intel Core i5 4200M (2.50GHz)
  • 8GB Memory 750GB HDD
  • 15.6" 1366 x 768
  • Windows 8.1
  • DVD Super Multi
  • 15.08" x 9.82" x 1.27-1.48" 5.29 lbs.
Note: The MSI CX61 I have runs at a native 1366x768 on a 15.8 inch screen. This sounds very weak compared to HD displays of desktop PC rigs, but don't be fooled - this is still a very clear and pretty looking display when playing games. Imagine your screen being shrunk down; a lower resolution will still look good.
